Joe Mirachi's Experience:

  • President/CEO at Launch Federal Credit Union

Since joining the credit union as CEO in August 2012, I led the effort to strengthen the strategic planning process, update the mission and vision statements, clarify the value creation model, and reinvigorate the member service and lending functions. As a result , member growth, loan growth, and profitability all improved significantly as we better met the needs of our members. Also began cultivating a learning organization by shifting the corporate culture to emphasize teamwork, two-way communication, employee development, succession planning and employee empowerment. As a result, moving forward the credit union is better able to identify and respond to challenges and market opportunities in an increasingly turbulent environment. In June 2014, re-branded from Kennedy Space Center Federal Credit Union to better facilitate growth throughout Brevard and Volusia Counties. Launch FCU currently manages over $800-million in assets and serves more than 60,000 members. My local volunteer service includes the Board of Directors of the National Space Club, Florida Committee and the Corporate Chair for the Brevard 2014 JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes.

  • Board of Directors at First Corporate Credit Union

Served as a volunteer board member for $1 billion asset corporate credit union. Fulfilled the governance function during a turbulent time for corporate credit unions. Provided input for strategic planning and the development of a viable business model in light of the sweeping regulatory changes resulting from the financial crisis.

  • President/CEO at Tucson Old Pueblo Credit Union

Accepted a challenging position as CEO with a troubled credit union in September 2008 as the economy fell into a severe recession. Developed a strategic plan to refocus on core members from City of Tucson employee groups and decrease reliance on the indirect channel for growth. Overhauled the risk-based-pricing tiers and underwriting criteria for consumer and real estate lending to better reflect credit risk and reduce future loan losses. Transformed the corporate culture and created a learning organization with a highly motivated and empowered staff and strong alignment to the strategic plan. Despite challenging local economic conditions, the credit union returned to profitability with an ROA of 1.09% in 2010 and 1.05% in 2011. Also, as a result of the streamlined management structure and an empowered staff, member service improved and higher member satisfaction ratings were achieved within 18 months.

  • Board of Directors at Tucson Police Foundation

Served as volunteer member of the board and the finance committee. The Tucson Police Foundation, founded in 2003, is an independent, non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to fostering public safety through community building, education, and outreach. In concert with the Tucson Police Department, the foundation works with a range of community safety advocates to develop and implement public safety and crime prevention programs.

  • Board of Trustees and Executive Committee Member at Greater Tucson Fire Foundation

Served as a volunteer board and executive committee member. Also facilitated the strategic planning process and drafted the strategic planning document annually. The Greater Tucson Fire Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit organization founded to assess and respond to the needs of the Greater Tucson fire community.

  • Executive Vice President at Kirtland Federal Credit Union

During my tenure at Kirtland FCU, I held a number of senior management positions in finance, lending, operations, technology and marketing. In 2007, Kirtland was recognized as the Air Force Credit Union of the Year. In 2008, the credit union won the Zia Award from Quality New Mexico (only the 12th winner in 15 years).
